My mom made some protein bars. The ingredients are:

natural peanut butter
chocolate protein powder
oatmeal
splenda

Is this legal?? They are really good!! If anyone wants the recipe I'll get it and post it.

Another question - Seems like I remember reading to buy reduced fat cheese. The sugar grams are higher in the reduced fat than the regular. So which one is best with this woe?

it sound good. What you posted sounds legal also. I'd like to have the recipe. Is that all the ingredients???

oh about the cheese, I alway look at them and compare, if the regular is lower in sugars than low fat. I buy the regular. In the square single cheeses I buy Kraft
american 2% . In the whole cheeses I buy regular.

Same way when I buy cottage cheese, the regular has less sugar than the lowfat or nonfat cottae cheese, so I buy the regular. This may be wrong but I buy the ones with the lower sugar contents. We'll wait and see others comments.

My mom converted a regular recipe to make these. She didn't write down how much a what she put in, so...... this is the best I can do for now. I'm gonna try to get some made this weekend, then I will post my recipe.
This is the original recipe:

1 C. natural peanut butter
1 1/2 C. honey
2 C. protein powder (vanilla)
3 C. oatmeal

Heat peanut butter and honey, don't cook, just heat. Stir in protein and oatmeal.
Press in 9x13 pan.

This is the SB way:

1 C. natural peanut butter
1/2 C. splenda
2 scoops chocolate protein powder
1 1/2 c. oatmeal

Heat peanut butter & splenda, don't cook, just heat. Stir in protein & oatmeal.
Press in 8x8 pan.

Just taste after it is all mixed up, you might want a little more splenda. It reminded me of the No Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies, except they don't set up that firm, the texture is kinda like soft fudge maybe.

I will post after I make some. Let me know if anyone makes them and how they turn out.

These sound great!

I bet you could sub a cup of Agave Syrup for the honey and get a similar texture.

Mine did not turn out as good as Mom's. They were too dry and not enough chocolate. I used just 1 C. of oatmeal and 4 scoops chocolate. I also used fructose instead of splenda, and added a little water for some moisture. They are good, but not the the other ones. She's going to try to duplicate them probably Friday. I'll keep ya posted. Is fructose legal? I thought it was, but it has 4g sugar. Where do you find the agave syrup, that would give it the moisture it needed. I'm looking for something without an after taste. My husband can't stand ANY sweetner. Thanks for everyones help.

I haven't never found it - agave syrup, but other posts state you can find it a your local health food store. I don't go there much, but I would like to get some also and try it. I can't tell you about the taste or after taste though, never tried it. Maybe others will comment.

Agave has a different bit of taste, but is more like the consistency of honey, so maybe that will help it stick together a little bit. I can find agave nectar at a specialty store downtown here, but it's even more expensive than honey. Last time I bought it, an 8oz bottle was about $4 - $5.

You can search this site for Agave Nectar and you should come up with a hit for a website - posted probably Fall '03 - where you can order it online, but be prepared to order with a friend...I'm not sure you can use it all!!!
